The game does open up into some larger spaces, and there are a few areas where you hop into wild vehicles and aimlessly destroy everything in sight. ![]() ![]() My gamer instinct in these small areas was always “don’t use the rockets, don’t use the explosives,” because you’re bound to take damage. So many of the game’s areas are uncomfortably claustrophobic, with a ceiling a few inches from Mason’s head or walls on all sides, forcing you straight ahead. I almost always felt like my back was up against a wall, a few feet from a building or cavernous obstacle. Volition holds your hand every step of the way, pushing you through tiny corridors and confined spaces it simply doesn’t lend itself to the environment devastation most players will be looking for. Despite the wild alien-vs-Mason skirmishes, it’s hard not to feel like you’re on a guided tour of the Mars underground throughout the entire adventure. ![]()
